South African Airways rewards its frequent passengers with a frequent flyer program called the Voyager. The
South African Airways Voyager provides passengers, who frequently fly with the airline, several attractive opportunities and benefits.
Passengers, after flying three times with South African Airways, receive a Voyager membership welcome pack that includes the personalized Voyager membership card. South African Airways Voyager members regularly receive Voyager newsletters, the program schedules and updates of the member's Mileage Summary.
By being a member of the Voyager, travelers can earn different levels of Tier status such as Blue, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Lifetime Platinum. The Tier status of a member is determined by the number of Tier Miles the member flies in a particular year. A member can also earn Tier status by Sector Tiering. This means that the member has to fly the required sector in Premium Economy, Business or First Class in any of the zones based on three distances.
The South African Airways frequent flyer program also enables its members to earn miles. Voyager members earn miles every time they fly with South African Airways, the partner airlines of South African Airways or the Star Alliance airlines. Miles can also be earned by availing the services of the non-airline partners of South African airways such as hotel, car hire, financial or lifestyle partners. Members can also earn Bonus Miles from the various promotional offers.
The validity of Miles is three years from after the year they are earned. Miles expire on the 31st of March every year. But if a member had spent R40,000 on his Voyager Credit Card, then his Miles are carried over to the next with a validity of 12 more months.
The miles that have been collected by a member can be exchanged for various benefits such as flights, leisure, car rental and lifestyle benefits. The Miles brings in awards namely Anyday Awards and Mileage keeper Awards. All the members are regularly provided with their Mileage Summaries that show the number of Miles earned and the number of miles spent as well as the expiry of the Miles.
