Air France is a subsidiary of Air France-KLM. Established in 1933; it was the national airline of France before its merging with KLM. Air France Flying Blue is the Frequent Flyer Program of Air France and KLM. In 2005, the frequent flyer programs of Air France and KLM were amalgamated to the Flying Blue program. Flying Blue members can earn and utilize mileage points on flights and services of Air France-KLM and on the other companies of the Skyteam airline alliance.
Members of the Flying Blue program can gain Level Miles and Award Miles. Flying Blue has four membership levels-the basic level is termed as the Ivory Level, the Skyteam Elite level is called Silver Level, Skyteam Elite in USA and Elite plus elsewhere is called the Gold Level, and the last of the group is Platinum Level which is the Skyteam Elite Plus level.
Each mile flown is one level mile and one award mile. International flights in the bottom economy fare classes get 25% of the mileage flown credited. Passengers in Business or First Class get a bonus. Award Miles can be used for free flights, discounts, ticket upgrades and gifts and donations. If customers take non Skyteam airlines partners, only Award Miles are yielded but no elite bonus is granted. Award Miles can also be collected by accessing car rentals, hotel bookings and by purchasing duty-free items in the flight.
Elite benefits are offered to the customers of Flying Blue. Any membership level above Ivory offers exciting range of advantages. Some of them are priority boarding and extra baggage allowance for Silver level members, lounge access for Gold and Platinum level members. All Platinum level members enjoy Skyteam Elite Plus status.
Members of Elite group are eligible for confirmed upgrades to domestic First Class when flying with northwest Airlines in United States and Canada.
