The history of Qatar Volleyball dates back to the early 20th century. The sport of volleyball in Qatar came under the formal administrative umbrella of the Qatar Volleyball Association in 1962.
The Qatar Volleyball Association or QVBA was founded in the Qatari capital city of Doha in 1962. The Qatar Volleyball Association registered with the International Volleyball association or FIVB in 1974. The membership to the Pan-Arab Volleyball Confederation was attained in 1975. The Qatari association co-opted with the Asian Football Federation in 1976. The Qatar Volleyball Association joined the Gulf Football Organizational Committee in the year 1981. The Qatar Volleyball team has achieved notable success in the International sports arena. The national Qatari Volleyball team won the third prize in the Independence Anniversary Volleyball Championship in 1981. The event was held at Qatar capital Doha.
The sports scene of volleyball in Qatar is enriched by the pro-active participation of the government authorities in promoting the game. Grass root participation is increased by encouraging the game to be played at the school level. The Qatar Volleyball Association or QVBA undertakes activities to increase popular media coverage of the team sport. Proper training of officials in the field of sports administration is also undertaken.
