Mesaieed is also known as Umm Said. Mesaieed is situated over the eastern coast of the Arabian mainland. Mesaieed or Umm Said was established as a tanker terminal by the Qatar Petroleum Company in the year 1949.

The city is situated on the inhospitable and uninhabited site along the coasts of the Sabkhah or the salt flat terminal of the coastal region. Mesaieed in Qatar is also the sole deep water site since the past twenty years.

Mesaieed is at a distance of twenty miles, that is, 45kms from the southern point of Doha. It is also the main point of the original downstream industries of Qatar. The city of Mesaieed is famous both for its oil extracting as well as commercial ports. The major refineries are engaged in the production of fertilizers, steel, natural gas liquids and petrochemicals. Mesaieed at Qatar is also the hometown of Qatar’s National Oil Distribution Company or NODCO. NODCO was established in 1968 and is totally owned by Qatar Petroleum. The company is engaged in the distribution of its products both locally and internationally. The main produces are super gasoline, fuel oil, kerosene, lead free premium gasoline and butagas.

The Mesaieed Industrial City Management or MIC, established in 1996, is significant as a “one stop” or a Single Point Authority in the case of providing all business related services in Qatar. Among other services, the Marine and the Port services are the most prominent facilities provided by this company.
