Al Khor is located at a distance of 57 kilometers from the capital city of Doha. The city is known to be a harbor city of the country. Al Khor is basically renowned for the tiny crafts and fishing boats seen on its harbors. The beaches of the city are still considered to be among the most visited tourist places of Qatar. There are ample opportunities to unwind and relax on the sun-kissed beaches around the calm and pristine waters of the Persian Gulf near Al Khor in Qatar. The city of Al Khor is considered to be older than the capital city of Doha. Located to the north of Doha, this city and municipality had a population of around 31,000 according to the 2004 census. In the earlier days, the city emerged as a pearl fishing center. However, at present, Al Khor at Qatar is ready to develop into a tourist's paradise in the coming five years due to the upcoming $ 5billion project covering an area of 80m sq ft, by the two Qatari developers, Diar and Barwa. This development is to include two hotels, chalets, a marina, sports facilities and beautifully designed gardens.
