Al Udeid Air Base Qatar is a very noted station for the air forces of Qatar. During the Afghanistan war in September 2002, 2000 American soldiers were kept at Al Udeid Air Base Qatar. There are two dozens of KC-135 Stratotankers and KC 10A Extenders at the Al Udeid Air Base for refueling the bombers and fighter jets, which are scheduled be used against Afghanistan.
Presently, the Al Udeid Air Base of Qatar has been renovated and its accommodating capacity has also been increased so as to fit in 120 air-crafts and 10,000 troops and 50 warplanes. For construction of this air base of Qatar more than a billion dollar has been spent. The runway of this air base has been regarded as the longest in the Gulf.
Qatar has agreed to spend 400 million dollars to build a storage tank, which will be having a capacity of containing one million gallon of aviation fuel. Qatar and Pentagon have jointly decided to use the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar for sheltering US warplanes to meet the emergency situation. Moreover, the Qatar Air Force Base will also help the United States of America to anticipate any kind of potential danger coming from the side of Iran or Iraq. To accommodate all types of air-force planes this air base Qatar needs to have aprons, sunshades for the fighter jets, hangars and prefabricated maintenance buildings. Communication and Intelligence equipments, computers have been set up by the US for more effective usage of this air base in Qatar.
