Qatar government is an absolute monarchy. The
government of Qatar is controlled by the Emir of Qatar. The Emir heads the
government and also assumes the role of the head of State.
Qatar is ruled by the Al Thani family. The Executive Branch of the
Qatar government has the Emir of Qatar as its supreme commander. The Emir is assisted in his duties by the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister of the
government of Qatar is chosen by the Emir himself. A number of government departments are responsible to promote and monitor the country's economic progress. The government in Qatar is modeled on the Islamic form of governance. Sharia laws are applicable on the citizens and residents in the Arab country. Formation and functioning of political parties are banned in Qatar. Elections are not held in Qatar.
The country of
Qatar has no parliament. A Consultative Assembly is present instead of a formal parliamentary system. The Consultative Assembly has 35 members. All 35 members are appointed by the Emir himself. Municipal elections are held in Qatar. There is limited female suffrage. Qatar is divided into 9 municipal divisions. The municipal divisions are Ar Rayyan, Al Khawr, Ad Dawhah, Al Ghuwayriyah, Al Jumayliyah, Al Wakrah, Umm Salal, Jarayan Al Batinah and Madinat Ash Shamal.
