Qatar History

The Qatar history is very much eventful. The history of Qatar indicates the various phases that led to the ultimate development of present Qatar. The first trace of human settlements was found in Qatar peninsula around 4000 BC. The archeologists from countries like France, Britain and Denmark found some rock carvings and potteries that indicated signs of human settlements there. According to some historians the first inhabitants were the Cannanities who were experts in navigation and trading skills. The locational importance of Qatar is responsible for the inflow of Arab tribes from the Arabian Peninsula and specially from the Nejd Desert.

Qatar failed to ignore the growing importance of Islamic religion. It got converted into Islam in the seventh century AD. Later on, however, Qatar played a significant role in spreading this religion to various parts of the world. Qatar from the very beginning is famous for its expertise in cloth making and weaving. Apart from this the country also has the best quality camels and horses. Some historians following the Qatar history were of the opinion that Qatar is a part of the region of Bahrain, which extends from Basra in Iraq to Oman. The history of Qatar is also indicative of the fact Qatar had good relations with the Caliphs of Baghdad. The artefacts of the Abbasids were found in Moab fort in western Qatar.

In the beginning of the 16th century Qatar fell under the control of the Portuguese. They were successful in establishing their control in many parts of the Arabian Peninsula. The Portuguese also efficiently controlled the trade and navigation. Later on in 1538 AD the Portuguese were overthrown by the Ottomans. The Ottomans ruled Qatar for four centuries.
