Qatar Israel relations had remained cut off after the Israel-Egypt war. However, since 1994 Qatar gradually revoked the economic boycott of Israel. From that time till date Qatar Israel relation is being based on mutual understanding. In the subsequent period Israel signed a memorandum of intent with Qatar to purchase the latter's liquefied natural gas. But the normalization of relations between Israel and Qatar got a set back under the pressure of other Arab states.
Israel with a land area of about 20, 000 sq km has a population of nearly 6.4 million. It lies at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea & is bordered by Egypt, Syria & Jordon, & Lebanon. Predominantly Jewish in ethnicity, Israel's capital is Jerusalem, languages are Hebrew, Arabic & English & religions are Judaism, Islam & Christian. It is economically & militarily advanced & it runs a Parliamentary democracy.
In accordance with the decisions of the Arab League countries Qatar denounced Israel's settlement activities in the Palestinian regions and imposed sanctions against mutual trade as well as diplomatic relations. Israel, in retaliation, cut off all diplomatic relations with most Arab countries including Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran and few others. This was in fact the major setback in the relation between Qatar and Israel. However, in most recent times unofficial trade relations have taken place between Qatar and Israel.
