Strategic importance of relationship does not exist between Iran Qatar. It was only after a long time that the Iran Qatar relations got normalized and both of them agreed to maintain a mutual understanding. Iran, formerly known as Persia is an epitome of Persian culture and Persian languages. Its full name is the Islamic Republic of Iran and it is located in the territories of the Middle East and South Asia.
The 18th largest country in the world Iran has a total population of over 70 million and its literacy rate is about 80%. The main countries on Iran's borders are Armenia and Azerbaijan to the north, Turkey and Iraq to the west, Afghanistan and Pakistan to the east and the Gulf of Oman and Caspian Sea to the south. Iran enjoys a singular geostrategic importance because of its central location in Eurasia. It has an advanced economy coming from massive reserves of mineral oil and natural gas.
Iran is a founding member of OPEC, ECO, UNO, OIC and NAM. It is a regional powerhouse in Southwest Asia and it has a large army to protect the land. The Iran-Iraq war was a temporary set-back for Iran's economy, but it has now tided over that crisis. In recent times Iran has been in the highlight for its reform process as well as building up of nuclear capabilities for, which the USA and the UN have taken a hostile stand towards the country. India is due to finalize a commercial treaty with Iran for supply of natural gas. The relationship between Iran and Qatar had become cold during Iran-Iraq conflict. However, of late the Iran Qatar relations have normalized and both are crucial members of the OPEC.
