The Al Thani dynasty is the most famous of the Qatar dynasty. The presence of the Al Thani dynasty can be traced back to the 18th century. This dynasty of Qatar has been named after Sheikh Thani Bin Muhamed. He was the father of Sheikh Muhamed Bin Thani, who ruled in the middle of the 19th century. The family of Al Thani is a branch of Arab tribe of Beni Tameem. Qatar was ruled by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Thani in the middle of the 19th century. He had his capital at Al Bidda till 1878. After his death in the same year, he was succeeded by Sheikh Jassim bin Muhammed Al Thani. This ruler ruled with great power and independence from the Ottomans and the British.
After the withdrawal of the Ottoman rulers in 1916, the ruling power in the hands of Shaikh Abdalla bin Jaseem. During his reign Qatar came under the direct control of the British Empire. During the 1950's the ruling power of Qatar came in the hands of Shaikh Khalifa bin Hamad. He was truly a ruler of great caliber and efficiently handled various positions of great significance with great efficiency and effectiveness. Not only that, he was also successful in managing the people and in solving their problems. The Qatar dynasty played a significant role in making all round developments in the country like increasing the investment opportunities, strengthening the foreign relation, improving the scenario of trade and commerce.
