Qatar Capital


The Capital of Qatar is Doha. It was 1850 when city of Doha was founded. The name was 'Al Bida' that time. Doha, the capital of Qatar, means 'the big tree' in Arabic language. Doha Qatar became known as capital of the British protectorate of Qatar since 1916. This Qatar capital remained as the same even after Qatar became independent in 1971.

Located in the Arabian Peninsula, the city of Doha is very hot in nature. Average temperature from May to September each year remains around 40 degrees Celsius with negligible humidity. Rainfall is very short-lived and less in quantity. The temperature can go below 7 degree Celsius during winter season.

Doha, the Qatar capital, is considered as the largest capital of the country. An artificial and large deepwater port is there. Major landmarks in Doha Qatar are the marketplace and the government house. Doha homes more than half of the population of the country. Once a village known for fishing and pearling, this Qatar capital has shrimp processing and shrimping as important industries.

Doha is dedicated to research and education in Qatar. This Muslim populated city is the home to University of Qatar. It was founded in 1973. There are many elementary and secondary schools in this Capital of Qatar. Doha spent $2.8 billion for the 15th Asian Games held in Qatar in December 2006. Doha also became the host to 3rd West Asian Games.
