The education in Qatar began in the first half of the twentieth century. During those times the boys and girls were taught in the traditional 'katateeb' Schools in Qatar. But till date the education system in Qatar has come a long way ahead and has shown considerable amount of development. Qatar follows a vital education until the basic stage and the schooling is free of cost to all the citizens.
Schools in Qatar are 113 elementary schools, 56 preparatory schools, 41 secondary schools. Qatar also has private schools. The names of some of the Qatar schools are:
Ibn Tamiya Secondary School
Qatar International School: It is an independent school with the medium of speaking as English. It is located in the capital city of Doha. It was established in the year 1977.
Doha English School: It is the first British primary school in Qatar.

Doha Academy: This is an English medium school for the students of the age group belonging to 3 to 15.
The Cambridge School, Doha: This is a school in Doha which is a British style international School which offers education starting from the Kindergarten stage to the ninth year.
Al Jazeera Academy: This is also an English medium school in Doha. This school follows international syllabus from the Kindergarten stage to the sixth year. From the seventh year onwards the British National Curriculum is followed upto the tenth and the eleventh years.
