Cornell Qatar, better known as the Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, is a part of the Cornell University. Cornell Qatar is also the first medical overseas school. Cornell Qatar has been established through collaboration between the Qatar Foundation for Education and Cornell, Science and Community Development. The triple mission of Cornell Qatar is Research, Education and Patient care.
The six year integrated course offered at WCMC-Q is divided into two year pre-medical program, followed by the four year medical program. At the end of the completion, the Cornell University offers a degree of MD. The teaching is conducted by Cornell's own professors and the teaching standards are the same as the main campus. Separate admission programs are available for each course and once admitted to the pre-medical course does not necessarily indicate an admission to the medical courses.
The students at Cornell University in Qatar are introduced to the patient care program from a very early stage. This medical program was opened in Qatar in 2004. The patient care programs are carried out in the various health care centers and also at the various hospitals in Doha. The program is affiliated to the Harnad Medical Corporation (HMC). The Clinical Clerkships are acquired by the students in the third and the fourth years. The Cornell Qatar University is also aiming for collaboration in Research and clinical care with the HMC in near future.
