Portugal Flag




Portugal Flag represent the government and the people of Portugal. On 30th June 1911 the National Flag of Portugal had been officially adopted after the Portuguese independence was declared.
The flag of Portugal is mentioned in the country's constitution in Article 11. Red and green are the main colors used in a Portugal Flag. A coat of arms with a white traditional Portuguese shield is placed at the centre of flag.
Design of Portugal Flag
The flag is divided into two parts vertically. The hoist side of the flag is green, which covers 2/5 of the length of the flag. The 3/5 of the flag is red. At the point where the two rectangles meet, a traditional Portuguese coat of arm is placed. A white shield is pictured within a red shield, which is bordered by yellow bands. The white shield contain five smaller shield colored in blue.
Significance of Portugal Flag
The green part of the flag represents a very famous Portuguese explorer named King Henry and the green symbolize the internal revolution that took place during the early 1800. The shield pictured at the centre of the flag stand for the exploration of the ocean and Portugal's escalating authority during the King of Afonso Henriques' sovereignty.
