Wine in Portugal




The perfect climatic condition and the topography of Portugal has helped in the growth of exceptional Portugal wines. More than 400,000 hectares of land is engaged in wine producing. Wines vary from light dry fruity whites to sweet desert wines to red wines.

Port Wines in Portugal

Vintage is a perfect example of Port wine. The wine is deep red in color and is preserved for two years before being bottled. The Late Bottled Vintage is also red in color and matures quickly. Colheita is a desert wine and is yellow in color.

Madeira wine in Portugal

This wine is prepared from soft black paint grapes and takes three years to mature.

Portuguese Red wines

Red wine is mostly produced in the vineyards of Douro. This type of wine has deep color and the aroma is very different from other types of wine. Dao Red Wine is prepared from Touriga" and "Rufete” grapes. This wine goes well with meat and fish dishes. The Bairrada wines are prepared from Baga and Tinta Pinheira grapes. Again this wine goes well with cheese and meat dishes. Colares is a red wine made from "Ramisco" grape.

Portuguese White wines

Alentejo wines are one of the oldest wines which made its presence during the Roman Empire. Ropeiro", "Arinto", "Antao Vaz" and "Perreu grapes are used to make these wines. These wines have a transparent look and the taste is very intricate. The taste of any shell fish meal is enhanced by this drink.
