Poland Invasion


Invasion of Poland by German started on 1st September, 1939. Coming from Slovakia and East Prussia, German army defeated the Polish in around 10 days. The Air Force of Poland was defeated on the ground only after the day 1. The divisions of Panzer cut through the Pole forces and isolated them. On 15th September the Polish Resistance broke down. The Polish government fled to France and Romania where they set up their government in deport. Warsaw had been able to hold out after a month.

Hitler became so happy with his Poland victory that he looses his patience to turn to the Western Allies at once, but his generals felt that their army was not ready to fight.

Again when France and Britain declared war on Germany, the Germans had no big patriotic events in Berlin as there had been at the starting of World War I. However, on 9th October, 1939, Hitler issued orders to prepare Operation Yellow that will involve conquering Netherlands and Belgium.

On 1st September 1939, Germany invaded Poland just after the long-term political crises. Over 1200 people were being killed in first war crime of World War II. On 3rd September, 1939, France and Great Britain declared war on Germany. Originally, Germany was to invade Poland in early hours of 26th August. The invasion was anteceded by several German border provocations and diversions acts.

The force used for the Invasion of Poland was comprised of five armies and reserves including 1 Panzer, 14 Infantry and 2 Mountain Divisions, all were being operated under the command of General Walther von Brauchitsch. It is said that Germans attacked from 3 directions - Western Pomerania and East Prussia, Silesia / Moravia and Slovakia.
