Business in Poland

The business in Poland has witnessed a revolutionary change after the fall of the communist rule in the 1990s. The Government of Poland has opened the Poland market to the private organizations. The business in Poland has always thrived on the sectors like fuels and energy (coal, oil and gas, power generation), extraction and manufacturing industries (light industry, automotive industries, construction machinery, shipbuilding), agriculture, fishing and forestry. The business in Poland is growing since the privatization of sectors like coal, railways, steel and energy. There were a few hiccups when they were primarily privatized in the 1990s. But with the passage of time, there has been stability in the business in Poland. The Government of Poland took the bold steps to issue 30% of the shares in Poland's largest bank (PKO Bank Polski) on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in 2004. The nationalized telecoms firm Telekomunikacja Polska was even privatized. France Telecom took over Telekomunikacja Polska in 2000. The Government of Poland has targeted to drift twenty more public companies on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

The foreign companies have been investing in big measures in the business in Poland since the inclusion of Poland as a member in the European Union. The land and property in Poland are available at a much cheaper cost in comparison with the other European nations. This has furthered the interest of business persons to purchase Polish property and start business in Poland.

The large number of private agricultural firms doing business in Poland promises to become a leading producer of food in the European Union. Though the business in Poland promises a bright future, there are some challenges ahead. The uphill task that waits for Poland is the preparation of its economy to meet the strict economic criteria for plunging into the European Single Currency (Euro).
