The
Poland Flag is a rectangular piece of cloth with the colors red and white on it. Red and White are the
National colors of Poland and they are placed on the
Poland Flag in two horizontal stripes. On certain
Poland Flags there is the
Polish Coat of Arms, that is a symbol of a white eagle on the white stripe. The exact shades of the red and white colors used in the
Poland Flag are described in the
Polish Law. With a heraldic origin the colors of the
Poland Flag have a history which began from 1831. The colors of the
Poland Flag is one of the
constitutional symbols of the Republic of Poland, the other symbols are, the national anthem, the coat of arms, and the
White Eagle.
Legally, the colors of the
Poland Flag are described in two official documents, the
Constitution of the Republic of Poland and the
State Seals Act. As the
Coat of Arms Act points out there are two kinds of
Poland Flags, the
State flag of the Republic of Poland and the
State flag with coat of arms of the Republic of Poland.
The
Poland Flag is a symbol of Polish pride and honor and the citizens are encouraged to fly the
Poland Flag, specially on certain important days, these days include;
- Polish Independence Day- November 11
- Polish Constitution Day- May 3
- Polish Flag Day-May 2
- May Day- May 1
There are certain offices and organs who are bound, by the
Polish Law, to fly the Polish state Flag, in front or on top on their buildings:
- President of the Republic.
- The Council of Ministers (government) and the President of the Council of Ministers (Prime Minister).
- The Sejm (lower house of parliament).
- The Senate (upper house of parliament).
- Local legislatures.
- Other state and local government organs.
