The
Peru geography is varied, having great variety in
terrain and
weather patterns. Variety in terrain ensures variety in
weather, and its location in the western part of South America, on the South Pacific Ocean coast, also influences its
weather.
The
Peru geography locates it in western South America, and
Peru shares its borders with Ecuador and Colombia in the north, Brazil and Bolivia on the east, and Bolivia and Chile on the south. The high
Andes mountain range divides Peru into three rough divisions of
terrain and
weather. The western area is mostly the coastline of the South Pacific Ocean, and adjoining areas, which are arid and dry. This extends to the
Atacama desert in the southern regions of Peru. The central inlands are mountainous, with the
Andes having high peaks and extensive plateaus and valleys. The eastern region of Peru consists mainly of sloping lands covered in rain forests, which lead to plains of the Amazon.
