Peru Capital

Lima, Peru Capital is discovered by Francisco Pizarro. This city is located on the bank of Rimac and only 8 miles away from the sea. Therefore it has an easy access in the sea route. The capital is crowded with population from various ethnic groups. Some have an indigenous background, others have migrated from various other nations.

The population of Peru Capital are decentralized. Some of them inhabit the mountains, sierra and others in the amazon rain forest, selva, though this region is looking for a better life. Lima is an over populated city with heavy traffic, poverty and a turbulent history of the 1980s and 1990s.

In the colonial days this Capital of Peru was the center of government, power, trade, commerce, culture and politics. The first university of South America was established in Lima in 1551. The lavish colonial buildings, palaces, courtyards, elaborate gates made in the baroque style are fascinating. Though much of it was destroyed in an earthquake, the remaining few are enough to convey the charm of the old days.

Lima being the Capital of Peru has easy access by all the routes. Domestic and international fights are available from the Jorge Chavez International Airport. This city is connected to various places like LA Oroya, Huancayo, Puno-Cuzco by rail. Ships can be availed from the Callao port. You can have access to many places by bus from Lima. Buses are also available to Lima from other places as well and this a much preferred journey in Peru.
