The high school Lasalle Peru was in trouble a few years back. The board of eduction was quite worried about the improvement and declining test scores, a high truancy, below average attendance rates and increasing dropout rate of this school. So they appointed a new superintendent in the hope of an implement of a school-wide improvement program.
Lasalle Peru did not have any systematic improvement activities. The curriculum committee has also been disbanded. Moreover the board and the teacher's union were negotiating with the help of a federal mediator. This communication gap resulted in a teacher's strike. In this situation the board has decided to create the Internal Review Team which was comprised of faculty, staff, administrators and a member of the board of education.
The IRT made major changes in the rules and regulations to bring improvement in the Lasalle High School of Peru. The staff and teachers were empowered to take necessary decisions. They marked three areas of improvement such as reading, student attendance and respectful interaction. To solve the problems they introduced many committees out of which the Respect Committee was the most important one.
Lasalle High School in Peru was highly effected by the programs of this committee. The programs include the establishment of IRT as a site-based school improvement committee, use data so that the need of the school can be identified, attracting input from all stakeholders, offering decision making authority to the people themselves, to involve students to a large scale, developing the condition of the staff. All these changes helped Lasalle Peru to meet a positive result.
