Wong, Peru, is currently the largest chain of retail and supermarkets in Peru, and currently expanding in many fields. It was founded by Chinese immigrants who came to Peru in the middle of the 1900's. The rapidly expanding company is one of the most fascinating entrepreneurial success stories to be heard.
The founders of Wong, Peru, Erasmo Wong and his wife Angela, were Chinese people who had immigrated to Peru. They started off by opening a small shop in Lima, the capital city of Peru. That small shop was the stepping stone to one of the largest business empires in Peru, which currently contains about 26 stores, including supermarkets, and hypermarkets.
Wong, Peru has gone from strength to strength, rising from humble beginnings. They have tied up with US based fast food giants McDonald's, which has outlets in many of the supermarkets of the Wong family. It has since introduced credit cards, bank outlets in its supermarkets, day care centers for children, and the largest book publication in Peru, the Gold Book.
Recently, Wong, Peru has extended its business reach over the Internet, starting Internet service and e-commerce provisions for the citizens of Peru. This venture, ins spite of the low penetration of Internet in Peru, is gathering popularity among the locals, and becoming popular.
