This 19th century building stands out as the oldest hotel in Asuncion. The furniture and paintings, that decor the interiors of Gran Hotel del Paraguay are mostly antique pieces.
In every corner of this building, the tourists can feel the essence of the 19th century. The balconies of this building presenting a wide panorama of the city can inspire any tourist to be a poet. The gardens in the front of the mansion are adorned with magnificent statues and wide varieties of flora.
Gran Hotel del Paraguay was once the residence of Paraguayan dictator Francisco Solano LOpez's Irish mistress Madame Elisa Lynch. In 1873, this residential mansion was transformed into a hotel by Dr.
Andreuzzi. Within the premises of the hotel, were started the first skate floor of Paraguay and a summer theater. This hotel was then named as 'Cancha Sociedad'. Later it was renamed as Gran Hotel del Paraguay.
This hotel has been renovated many times since then. But, it has always been taken care of that the remodeling does not affect the original design pattern.
