Gran Hotel del Paraguay was once the residence of Paraguayan dictator Francisco Solano López’s Irish mistress Madame Elisa Lynch. In 1873, this residential mansion was transformed into a hotel by Dr. Andreuzzi. Within the premises of the hotel, were started the first skate floor of Paraguay and a summer theater. This hotel was then named as ‘Cancha Sociedad’. Later it was renamed as Gran Hotel del Paraguay.
This hotel has been renovated many times since then. But, it has always been taken care of that the remodeling does not affect the original design pattern.
