Casa de la Independencia is one of the major tourist attractions in the heart of Paraguay. If translated in the English language, the term Casa de la Independencia denotes ‘The House of Independence’. This house captures the hearts of the tourists not solely for its architectural supremacy, but also for its historical significance. It was from this house, that the Paraguayans started the revolt against the Spaniards. Thus, Casa de la Independencia is regarded as the birthplace of the independence of Paraguay.
Casa de la Independencia was built in the year of 1774. In each corner of the building, there are the marks of the revolutionaries. The tourists are bound to be nostalgic to witness the magnificent patio, where the revolutionaries met secretly to design their plans of revolt against Spain. The alleyway in the hinder part of the building bears images of the struggle of the revolutionaries. The brick floors and the whitewashed walls are also a study of interest for the modern architects.
A museum has been set up within the building of Casa de la Independencia. The tourists can enjoy the magnificent sight of this historical building and museum without paying any charge. It remains open from 7A.M. to 6:30 P.M. on weekdays, while on Saturday it is open from 8A.M. to noon.
