Terere

Terere is one of the most popular beverages in the country of Paraguay. The people of Paraguay from all age groups consume this drink in large scale. This drink can be consumed either in chilled cold condition with ice or in hot condition. While the students carry this drink in a flask to their institutions, the peasants and workers carry it to their workstations. In the summer season (when temperatures in Paraguay reach to nearly 45 degrees Celsius), this chilled drink acts as a breather. This drink acts as a stimulant. Various ailments like headache, diarrhea, stomachache can be prevented by consuming this stimulant of Paraguay. There are many cafes in Paraguay, where Paraguay terere is served and the consumers spend hours while chatting with their partners and enjoying the drink. Terere tastes equally good when tasted hot. Terere is thought to be a replacement of the coffee of America.

Terere can be prepared in different ways. The person, who likes it cold can pour terere in cold water and consume it. For the person preferring hot drink can pour terere in boiling water and enjoy it.
For further flavor, one can add mint, chamomile, anise to the hot water along with terere. Few prefer to enjoy sweet terere. They add honey or sugar to the drink. Lime and orange juices can also be mixed in this beverage of Paraguay.

The people of Paraguay traditionally suck this drink through a tube/straw from a guampa. It is a delight for the tourists to enjoy this low calorie traditional drink of Paraguay and refresh themselves.
