Panama Canal

Panama canal is one of the main ship canal zones that cuts through the Panama isthmus and links the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans. The canal of Panama is one of the most difficult and heavy constructions conducted by proficient engineers. The whole process of constructing the canal of Panama started in the year 1880.

The canal project was taken over by the U.S. engineers and by the early part of the 19th century it was completed. The Panama canal was built keeping in mind the advantages that it would provide to the traders who needed a short-cut to carry out their commercial transactions with the Caribbean as well as Pacific islands. It was the major trading route that enabled trade and commerce between the two regions, Caribbean and the Pacific.

Panama Canal History

The history of Panama Canal dates back to the early 16th century when the Spanish colonizers thought of the idea of a channel. After many propositions the idea of building a canal was dropped by the Spanish government. After Panama was taken over by New Granada, the construction of Canal was initiated. After Panama signed a pact with U.S.A., the canal construction actively started. After 1936 when Panama was proclaimed independent the project of the canal was passed back to Panama.
