Lahore is also known as the “Heart of Pakistan”. Located in Punjab it is the capital of the province and is the second most densely populated city of the country. The Mughals left behind a rich heritage in Lahore . So it is often called the Garden of the Mughal,s or the City of Gardens .
A Brief History :
It is believed Lahore was named after King Lav son of King Rama, who ruled Lahore in the ancient times. It was captured by Mahmud of Ghazni in the 10 th century. After the fall of the Ghaznavid empire it was taken over by Khilji's, Thuglaqs, Sayyid, Lodhis and Suris respectively. In 1524AD Lahore became a part of the Mughal empire. It reached its zenith of glory during the Mughal reign. Many great architectures and gardens were built by Akbar, Jahangir, Shahjahan And Aurangazeb.In 1799 Ranjit Singh invaded and conquered Lahore . After the second Anglo Sikh war Lahore came under the control of the British.
Climate :
Summer is at its peak in the months of May, June and July. Temperature rises to 45 to 50 degree celcius. Monsoon sets in at the end of July. The coldest months are from December to January and the Temperature may drop to -1degree celcius.
Population and Language:
Lahore has a population of about 11 million people. 87% of the population are Punjabis 10% Mujahirs and more than 1% are Pashtuns. The main languages spoken are Punjabi, Pashtun, Urdu and English. 96% of the populations are Muslims.
