Squash in Pakistan is played in different parts of the country. Over the years squash has marked significant popularity though major steps must be taken to build up the international standard and reputation.
Squash is a special game for every Pakistanis. Squash plays a significant role in the Pakistan Sports. Adil Ahmad, former chairman of Karachi Squash Association is of the opinion that squash plays a more important role in the development of society in Pakistan than being only a sport event.
Over the years Pakistan has given many champions of squash. In Pakistan there are not more than 400 squash courts. Some of the names of the all time squash champions are Mohibullah Khan, Aftab Jawaid, Mo Yasin, Azam Khan, Roshan Khan, Gogi Alauddin, Jansher Khan and Hashim. The World Squash Federation's president is Jahangir. Jahangir commanded squash for about fourteen years. He won the British Open about ten times. The World Open Squash tournament was won eight times by him. He remains unbeaten for five and a half years or so.
Dunlop PSA World Rankings held in 2002 November says that Mansoor Zaman and Shahid Zaman occupy the 21 and 28th position respectively. Squash in Pakistan has been more like a family sport. Shehzad, Amjad and Mohib who are the nephew of Jansher Khan also play squash. Besides Omar Zaman the younger brother of Qamar Zaman also plays Squash in Pakistan. Mansoor Zaman the son of Qamar Zaman plays squash like his father. Thus there are endless list of families that play squash in Pakistan.
Squash has given the country uniform acknowledgment. Therefore steps are being taken to develop an international recognition. Some of the big Centers for Squash Championship in Pakistan are in Karachi, Peshawar, Lahore and Islamabad.
