Athletics: Uganda's Stephen Kiprotich won the gold medal in the men's Marathon. The 23-year-old completed the 38-kilometer event in 2:08.01 to claim Uganda's second-ever Olympic gold in Athletics. Kenya’s Abel Kirui took the silver, just 26 seconds behind, while compatriot Wilson Kipsang settled for the bronze.
Basketball: The U.S. men’s team claimed their fifth Basketball gold in six Olympic Games since the start of the 'Dream Team' era with a 107-100 win against European champions Spain. Russia secured bronze after beating Argentina 81-77.
Boxing: Robeisy Ramirez Carrazana of Cuba beat Tugstsogt Nyambayar of Mongolia to win the gold in the Flyweight division, Ukraine’s Vasyl Lomachenko beat South Korea’s Han Soonchul in the Lightweight group, Serik Sapiyev of Kazakhstan defeated Freddie Evans of Great Britain in the Welterweight bout, Russia’s Egor Mekhontcev beat Kazakhstan’s Adibek Niyazmymbetov in the Light Heavyweight class and Anthony Joshua of Great Britain beat Roberto Cammarelle of Italy to take the gold in the Super Heavyweight class.
Cycling: Jaroslav Kulhavy of the Czech Republic won gold in the men's Mountain Bike race. The 2011 world champion managed to hold off Nino Schurter of Switzerland in 1:29:07, with Italy's Marco Fontana finishing third.
Gymnastics: Russia took home the gold in the Group All-Around event followed by Belarus and Italy.
Handball: France became the first nation to retain the Olympic title in men's Handball following a 22-21 win against Sweden. Croatia took home the bronze after a comfortable victory over Hungary.
Modern Pentathlon: Lithuania's Laura Asadauskaite secured the final gold medal of the London 2012 Olympics in the women's competition. Great Britain’s Samantha Murray won the silver and maintained the host nation’s record of having won a Modern Pentathlon medal at every Games since the women's event was introduced in Sydney 2000. Brazil's Yane Marques settled for the bronze medal.
Volleyball: Russia took the gold with a 3-2 victory against Brazil. Italy won the bronze medal after beating Bulgaria 3-1.
Water Polo: Croatia won their first men's Water Polo Olympic gold with an 8-6 victory over Italy. Serbia claimed the bronze after beating Montenegro 12-11.
Wrestling: Japan won their first male Wrestling gold in 24 years after Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu beat India's Sushil Kumar in the men's Freestyle Wrestling 66-kilogram final. Kazakhstan's Akzhurek Tanatarov and Cuba’s Livan Lopez Azcuy took home the bronze medals.
In the 96-kilogram Freestyle gold medal bout, the USA’s Jake Varner beat Ukraine's Valerii Andriitsev 1-0 1-0 to win the title. Khetag Gazyumov of Azerbaijan won the bronze after Reza Yazdani pulled out of one of the repechage finals due to a knee injury in the semifinals. Georgia's Georgi Gogshelidze won the other repechage match to also claim bronze.
