Paralympics is one of the most popular tournaments of the world, involving people with physical disabilities. This tournament is organized by the IOC or the International Olympic Committee and has a large number of physically challenged people participating in it. The history of the Paralympics goes back to the years after the end of the Second World War. In the year 1948, a sports competition involving World War II soldiers with spinal cord injuries, was organized in Stoke Mandeville in England by Sir Ludwig Guttmann.
The competition organized by Sir Guttmann gradually developed and culminated into the Paralympics Games of the present days. A large number of athletes and players from different countries of the world participate in these games. The number of participant countries is on a rise and from 23 in 1960, it had touched as many as 136 in the year 2004.
