The Fourteenth Olympiad: The 1948 Summer Olympics was officially known as the Games of the XIV Olympiad . The Games were held in 1948 in London, England . These were the first Summer Games since 1936 as there was a 12years gap due to out break of the World War II.

Venue: The Fourteenth Summer Games were held at Wembley Stadium , in London, England in 1948. Wembley Stadium is England's National Stadium for football. It is one of the world's most famous football stadiums.

Participants: 4099 participants competed in the fourteenth Olympiad. The 59 countries which took part in the Games were Afghanistan, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bermuda, Brazil, British Guiana, Burma, Canada, Ceylon, Chile, China, Colombia, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Egypt, Eire, Finland, France, Great Britain, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Iceland, India, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Jamaica, Korea, Lebanon, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Trinidad & Tobago, Turkey, U.S.A., Uruguay, Venezuela and Yugoslavia.

Events: In the fourteenth Olympiad there were 136events in 17 sports. The sports included in the program were athletics, basketball, boxing, canoeing, cycling, diving, equestrian, fencing, football, gymnastics, hockey, modern pentathlon, rowing, shooting, swimming, water polo, weightlifting, wrestling and yachting.

Medal Count: United States won the highest number of medals. They won 38 gold, 27 silver and 19 bronze medals which made a total of 84 medals.

A Brief Description of the Fourteenth Olympiad: The Fourteenth Summer Games were held from 29 th July to 14 th August in London, the capital of England. The Games were officially opened by King George VI. The athletes uttered Olympic oath led by Don Finlay. The Olympic Flame was lit by John Mark.
