On 6th July, 2005, the final selection was announced and it was decided that London will be the host of 2012 Summer Games. In the closing ceremony of Beijing Summer Games on Aug 24, 2008, Mayor of Beijing, Guo Jinlong, handed over the flag to the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Jacques Rogge. The President then entrusted the official flag to the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, before it was shifted to London to be hoisted at the city's main municipal building.
