The games were officially opened by Emperor Hirohito. The athletes uttered the Olympic oath led by Keiichi Suzuki. The judges' oath was taken under leadership of Fumio Asaki . In the stadium the Olympic Flame was lit by Hideki Takada . Japan was the first Asian country to host the Winter Summer Games.
