Nagano 1998 Winter Olympics

The City of Nagano: Nagano is the capital of Nagano Prefecture in Japan . The city is situated near the meeting point of the Chikuma River and Sai River in the island of Honshu, Japan .

The city was originally built around a famous Buddhist temple, Zenko-ji .

The Eighteenth Winter Olympics: The 1998 Winter Olympics were officially known as the X VIII Olympic Winter Games. The games were held in Nagano in Japan.

Venue: 1998 Winter Summer Games were held at Nagano Olympic Stadium in Nagano, Japan . Nagano Olympic Stadium is a baseball-use stadium. The stadium was used to hold the opening and closing ceremonies of the eighteenth Winter Summer Games in 1998.

Participants: 2176 participants competed in the 1998 Winter Summer Games . Events: There were 72 events in 7 sports in the eighteenth Winter Summer Games in 1998. The sports included were alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh, figure skating, free style skiing, ice hockey, luge, cross-country skiing, curling, Nordic combined, snowboarding, ski jumping, short track speed skating and speed skating.

Medal Count: Germany won the highest number of medals with 29 medals in total ( 12 gold, 9 silver, 8 bronze medals) . Japan, the host country won total 10 medals with 5 gold medals.

A Brief Description of the Nagano, Japan Winter Summer Games, 1998: The eighteenth Winter Summer Games were held from 7 th February to 22 nd February in Nagano in Japan. The games were officially opened by HIM Emperor Akihito. The athletes uttered the Olympic oath led by Kenji Ogiwara. The judges took the Olympic oath led by Junko Hiramatsu . In the stadium the Olympic Flame was lit by Midori Ito.
