The games were officially opened by Her Excellency the Rt. Hon. Jeanne Sauvé, Governor General of Canada. The athletes uttered the Olympic oath led by Pierre Harvey. The judges took the Olympic oath led by Suzanna Morrow-Francis . In the stadium the Olympic Flame was lit by Robin Perry .
