Career: Suzanne Lenglen is considered to be one of the most famous female tennis players of all time. Lenglen was the first female tennis celebrity and one of the first international female star sportsperson. The French press called her “La Divine”. Lenglen started playing tennis in 1910. In 1914, Lenglen won the World Hard Court Championships. In the 1919 Wimbledon Championships, she got her first Grand Slam victory. Lenglen participated in the 1920 Antwerp Summer Games . In the Games, she won gold medals in the women's singles and mixed doubles events. Lenglen also won one bronze medal in the women's doubles event. Lenglen became the Wimbledon singles champion for six times in 1919, 1920, 1921, 1922, 1923 and 1925. She won the Wimbledon women's doubles title in all the occasions when she won the singles title. Lenglen became the Wimbledon mixed doubles champion in 1920, 1922 and 1925. She became the World Hard Court singles Champion in 1914, 1921, 1922 and 1923. In the women's doubles competition in the World Hard Court Championships, Lenglen became winner for three times in 1914, 1921 and 1922. Lenglen was the winner in the women's singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles competition in the 1925 and 1926 French Championships. Lenglen was the first major female tennis player to turn professional. In 1927 Lenglen retired from tennis. The famous tennis player, Suzanne Lenglen died on 4 July in 1938.
Performance at the Olympics: Suzanne Lenglen participated in the 1920 Antwerp Summer Games . In the Games, Lenglen dominated the women's singles competition. She lost only four games during the competition. In the final, Lenglen defeated Dorothy Holman of Britain and won the first Olympic gold of her career. In the women's doubles competition, Lenglen paired with Elisabeth d'Ayen. They won bronze medal in the event. Lenglen teamed up with Max Decugis for the Olympic mixed doubles competition. In the event, she won her second Olympic gold medal.
