Football players have displayed great skill, courage, fine technique and finesse which makes the game popular. Football has been a significant part of the Olympics since its inception.

Players turn up for their countries prepared to win the matches in Olympics. The game requires a lot of concentration, discipline and good team work. There have been a number of players on the football field displaying amazing techniques and ability to handle the ball. These are the legendary players of the football matches in Olympics. Women's football became a part of the prestigious Olympic squad in the year 1996.

One such legendary football player in the Summer Games has been USA’s Mariel Margaret Hamm whose achievements on the field have been monumental. She had been part of the USA Women’s football team in 1996 Atlanta Olympics, 2000 Sydney Olympics and 2004 Athens Olympics. In the first and third occasion the USA won the gold medal while they got the silver in 2000.
