Career: Felix Savon started his career in boxing in 1980. Savon won the Cuban heavyweight title throughout his boxing career. In 1985, he won the Junior World Championships. Savon won the first World Championships title of his career in 1986. After the 1986 win, he won the World Championships title five more times. Savon participated at the 1992 Barcelona, 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Summer Games . In all the appearances at the Olympics, he won gold medal in the heavyweight boxing competition. Following the 2000 Summer Games, the 33 year old boxer announced his retirement from the sport.
Performance at the Olympics: Felix Savon participated in the 1992 Barcelona Summer Games . He defeated David Izonritel of Nigeria 14-1 in the final of the heavyweight boxing competition to win his first Olympic title. In the 1996 Atlanta Summer Games , Savon successfully defended his Olympic title by beating David Defiagbon of Canada in a 20-2 result. In his next appearance, in the 2000 Sydney Summer Games , he won his third Olympic title in the heavyweight category of boxing competition. This time he defeated Sultan Ahmed Ibragimov of Russiain the final with a 21-13 result. With his achievements in the Olympics, he became one of the three boxers to win three gold medals in the Games.
