Boxing- Olympic Players

Boxing Olympic Players: Boxing is another important event in the Summer Games. It draws a great number of spectators to the rings and has definitely contributed in making the Olympics more interesting and popular. It became a part of the Summer Games since the inception in 1896. This game of sweat and blood needs tremendous power and technique. The ring has an area of 20ft by 20 ft.

There are sub categorizations based on the weight of the players. There are 11 such categories. Boxing is played at the amateur level in the Olympics. Olympic boxing legends are few in number but all of them have contributed a lot in making the game attractive. Their professionalism is a quality to vouch for.

One such boxer was Muhammad Ali whose real name is Cassius Marcellus Clay. A United States citizen, he had won the gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1960 Olympics. His feat in boxing has not been challenged by any other existing boxer. This champion boxer has been awarded the title of 'Sportsman of the Century' in 1999.

Other famous boxers are Felix Savon Fabre and Teofilo Stevenson Lawrence who have achieved great success in the boxing section of Summer Games. The traditional hub of boxing has been Cuba and both these players hail from there.
