Chamonix (France)-1924 Winter Summer Games

The City of Chamonix: The original name of Chamonix is Chamonix-Mont-Blanc . Chamonix is situated at the foothill of Mont Blanc in eastern France in Haute-Savoie District . Chamonix is a popular winter sports venue in France . Ice climbing, rock climbing, extreme skiing, paragliding, rafting, canyoning —all these extreme sports can be arranged in Chamonix. For this reason, Chamonix is called “ the death-sport capital of the world ”. Some tourist attractions in Chamonix are Montenvers Railway, Mont Blanc Tramway, Panoramic restaurant atop the station of Brevent cable car, Alpine Museum Chamonix, Statue of Horace Benedict de Saussure and Statue of Michel-Gabriel Paccard.

The First Winter Olympics: The 1924 Winter Olympics were officially known as the I Olympic Winter Games. The games were held in Chamonix a town in Haute-Savoie, France. The first Winter Olympics were held in association with the 1924 Summer Olympics. The sports events were organized at the foothill of Mont Blanc in France.

Venue: 1924 winter Summer Games were held at the Stade Olympique de Chamonix in Chamonix, France . The stadium was an equestrian stadium . The opening and closing ceremonies of the 1924 Winter Olympics were held in this stadium along with other sports events.

Participants: 258 participants from 16 nations competed in the 1924 Winter Summer Games. The participating nations were Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Finland, France, Great Britain and Ireland, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, United States and Yugoslavia.

Events: There were 16 events in 7 sports in the first Winter Summer Games in 1924. Medals were awarded for bobsleigh, curling, figure skating, ice hockey, military patrol, Nordic skiing, cross-country skiing, Nordic combined, ski jumping and speed skating.

Medal Count: Norway won the highest number of medals winning 17 medals in total ( 4 gold, 7 silver, 6 bronze medals ). France , the host country won only 3 bronze medals .

A Brief Description of the Chamonix Winter Summer Games, 1924: The first Winter Summer Games were held from 25 th January to 5 th February in Chamonix, Haute-Savoie in France. The games were officially opened by Gaston Vidal. The athletes took Olympic oath led by Camille Mandrillon.
