TheWukesong Indoor Stadium: The Wukesong Indoor Stadium is an indoor arena in the Wukesong Sports Centre. The indoor stadium is currently under construction for the 2008 Summer Games to be held in Beijing. The Wukesong Indoor Stadium will be the venue of the basketball event in the Summer Games.
Location of theWukesong Indoor Stadium:The Wukesong Indoor Stadium is located in the western urban area of Beijing, at the intersection of the extended section of Chang'an Street and the West 4th Ring, by the Wukesong Station on metro Line 1. Beijing World Parkis the important landmark in the area. The hotels near the Wukesong Indoor Stadium are Sunny Capital Hotel and Jinghua Hotel.
Description of theWukesong Indoor Stadium:Beijing Wukesong Cultural & Sports Co. Ltd. is the in charge of construction of the Wukesong Indoor Stadium. Five shareholders of this organization are Zhongguancun CENCONS Group, Haidian State-owned Assets Investment Co. Ltd, Beijing Urban Construction Group Co. Ltd, Beijing Urban Construction Co. Ltd and the Tianhong Group. The construction was scaled back from its original design due to budget cut. Ground was broken for the stadium on 29 th March, 2005. The construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2007. After the Summer Games, the Wukesong Indoor Stadium will become an important part of Beijing's Summer Games heritage. The stadium will be the centre of sports, cultural, leisure, recreational and commercial activitiesfor the citizens of the western urban areaas well as Beijing.
Area and Capacity of the Wukesong Indoor Stadium :The total land surface covered by the Wukesong Indoor Stadiumwill be 63,000 square meters.The capacity of the Wukesong Indoor Stadiumwill be of 18,000spectators during the Summer Games.
