Handball —Olympics: Handball is a team sport where two teams pass and bounce a ball trying to throw it in the opponent goal. There are six players and a goal keeper in a handball team . The game is similar to football with the only difference of the method of handling the ball . Handball emerged as an international sport in the first half of the 20 th century . Handball is also known as team handball, field handball, European handball or Olympic handball .

Handball in the Summer Games: Handball for men was introduced in the schedule of the Summer Games in the 1936 Summer Games . The sport reappeared in the Olympics' program in 1972 . Women's handball was introduced at the 1976 Summer Games.

Handball at the 2008 Summer Games: At the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing , the handball events will be held from 9 th August to 24 th August . the finals are scheduled on 23 rd and 24 th August . The events are programmed at the National Indoor Stadium in the Olympic Green located in the Chaoyang District . Two gold medals will be given away in the Olympic handball event , one each for the men's and women's competitions .

Croatia, Spain, Germany, Russia and Sweden are the leading nations in the field of men's handball competition . In women's handball competition , Denmark , Korea , Ukraine , Hungary and Norway are the front runners.
