Archery— Olympics: Archery is the practice of shooting arrows with the help of a bow . Archery has originated far back in history. Historically archery was used in hunting and combat . Later on archery has become a precision sport .

Archery in the Summer Games: Archery has been included in the schedule of the modern Summer Games regularly between 1900 and 1920 . After 1920 , the sport was dropped from the program as there were no fixed international rules for archery. The sport was reintroduced with the individual event in Olympics schedule in 1972 , more than 50 years later . In 1988 , the sport was added to the program. Since then, archery has been a regular event in the Summer Games .

Archery at the 2008 Summer Games: At the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing , archery will be held over a period of seven days from 9 th August to 15 th August . The events will be held at the Olympic Green Archery Field , a temporary venue at Beijing's Olympic Park , the Olympic Green . Men and women will have the same categories in the sport. The categories will be an individual competition and a three person team competition. A total of 4 gold medals will be given away in the archery competition during the twenty-ninth Summer Games .

U.S.A . archers Guy Krueger, Brady Ellison, Kate Anderson, Joy Fahrenkrog Butch Johnson, Vic Wunderle, Jennifer Nichols, Amanda, Dakota Sinclair, Lindsay Plain, Joe McGlyn, Jason McKitttrick, Khatuna Lorig and Stephen Miller are the expected contenders in the Beijing Summer Olympics .
