Beijing Summer Games Event Calendar

On 13 July 2001 at the 112th IOC Session in Moscow, Beijing was elected the Host City for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in 2008. Some events (beach volleyball, sailing, swimming's new marathon) will be held in Qingdao city. Hong Kong will organize the equestrian events at Hong Kong Sports Institute in Fo Tan, Sha Tin.

2008 Summer Games Dates: Initially, the Summer Games were scheduled for July 25 to August 10, but because of weather concerns the Beijing Summer Games dates were pushed back by about two weeks and Beijing 2008 dates were rescheduled to 8–24 August, 2008. It is believed that the weather conditions will be much better in terms of heat and humidity during the changed Olympics 2008 dates. Organizers have decided that the ceremonial torch will be carried over the Mount Everest (mount Qomolangma) to celebrate the spirit of Olympics Beijing, dates for which have yet to be finalized probably in the month of May, 2008. The torch for Olympic Beijing 2008 dates, which boasts strongly of Chinese design and technical capabilities, got approved in 2007 January by IOC.

The participating nations of the Beijing Summer Olympics are expected to have most of the countries who participated in the Athens Summer Games of 2004.
