2008 Summer Games



The City of Beijing: Attended by 80 world leaders including George W. Bush and Nicholas Sarkozy, the 2008 Summer Games were officially inaugurated by President of China, Hu Jintao. An excellent oppurtunity to China to showcase its modern outlook to the global audience, this Games also mark a healthy competition between the US and its rival in the East. While China and the United States compete for the top position in medal tally, another emerging power India found its first ever Gold in individual events in this Games when Abhinav Bhindra emerged the winner in 10m men air rifle event. 10,500 athletes from 204 countries participate in this year's Summer Games. Will this year's Games bring more surprises to the sports-lovers all over the world? Let's wait and see.

The Twenty-ninth Modern Olympics: The 2008 Summer Olympics are officially known as the Games of the XXIX Olympiad. The Summer Games will be held in Beijing, the capital city of the People's Republic of China in the year 2008. Some events (beach volleyball, sailing, swimming's new marathon) will be held in Quingdao city. Hong Kong will organize the equestrian events at Hong Kong Sports Institute in Fo Tan, Sha Tin.

Venue:The twenty-ninth Summer Games is being held in several venues in Beijing including Beijing National Stadium. The Opening and Closing ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Games will be held in the Beijing National Stadium. The stadium will also be the main track and field stadium.

  • A Brief Description of the Twenty-ninth Olympiad: The twenty-ninth Summer Games is being held in Beijing, capital of the People's Republic of China. The Games was officially opened by the President of China. Beijing is China's second largest city in terms of population. The city was known in the name Peking. The city of Beijing is located in the northern part of China. Beijing is also one of the four great ancient capitals of China. Some tourist attractions of Beijing are Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Lama Temple, Drum Tower and Bell Tower, Summer Palace, Beihai Park and Jingshan (Prospect Park) The Olympic Torch carrying the Olympic Flame made its way through 28 cities around the world on its way to Beijing.
