Tennis has been a popular sport since the 19th century with its origin in England. At the 1896 Summer Games at Athens, Greece, tennis made its debut. People from all around the world watch the tennis tournaments with great enthusiasm. The tournaments are can be categorized as men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles and women's doubles. A Singles (Women) tennis match is played by only two people. The players need to score 4 points that is 15, 30, 40, and game. To win a set, the player must win 6 games. Out of the total three sets, women players are required to win the two sets.
Tennis Singles (Women) tournament at the Olympics was introduced for the first time at the summer Olympics, London in the year 1908. In that year, 5 tennis players participated from Great Britain. The number of nations participating at the Olympics today has incredibly increased. In the present times nations like Belgium, Japan, Spain, Greece, Russia, United States, France and Italy are found participating in the women’s singles tennis at the Olympics.
Tennis Singles (Women) event will be held at the Olympic Green Tennis Centre during the Beijing Summer Games in 2008. The competition will be started on 10th August, which will continue till 17th August.
