Football (Women)

Football (Women) – An Introduction: Football (Women) traces its origins back to the earliest dates of the game's inception. The actual date of the beginning of women's football has been doubtful, but there have been Chinese frescoes showing women playing some kind of an archaic form of the game. Modern Women's football got official status for the first time towards the end of the nineteenth century in France. Thereafter, despite certain setbacks in some countries, women's football has marched steadily on, gaining acclaim and popularity on the way. Right now, football is one of the few women's games to boast of a professional league of its own.

Football (Women) in Olympics: Women's football in Olympics was played for the first time in 1996, with six teams participating. USA was the winners, defeating China in the finals. Norway won the bronze. USA has been the strongest team as far as women's football in Olympic goes. After losing out to Norway in the 2000 Sydney finals, they came back to reclaim their title in the 2004 Athens Olympics. This time, USA defeated a strong Brazilian team in the finals. Germany won the bronze.

Football (Women) in Beijing Summer Games 2008: China is a strong Football nation, and their performance in Women's football is also commendable. Therefore, it is no surprise that women football, alongside men's football, will draw in great attendances. Women's football will start even before the opening ceremony on 6th August. The final picture is not yet clear, as the Qualifying games are yet to be over. However, it can be said that some of the European nations will give USA a tough fight for the title. China itself has qualified as the host nation, and will no doubt put up a great show in their home grounds.
