Tennis is an interesting sport that has become popular all over the world. Millions of people enjoy playing the game. Many love to watch the tournaments. It was introduced at the Athens Summer Games in 1896. The different types of matches in tennis include men's singles and men's doubles in the men's category and women's singles and women's doubles in the women's category. The Doubles (Women) tennis tournament made its debut at the 1920 Olympics. In a doubles match there are two people on each side of the net.
The women’s doubles tennis at the Olympics was initially dominated by Great Britain. The British players won both the gold and silver medals at the 1920 Olympics. France took away the bronze. USA won the women's doubles tennis at the 1924 Olympics held in Paris. After tennis returned at the Olympics in 1988, the countries who won the women's doubles tennis match were USA, Czechoslovakia, Spain, Australia, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Belgium, china and Argentina. Since Doubles (Women) tennis was included at the Olympics, United states have become the champions 5 times.
During the 2008Beijing Summer Games, the Tennis Doubles (Women) event has been programmed from 10th August to 17th August at the Olympic Green Tennis Centre.
