4x100m Medley Relay (Women)

4x100m Medley Relay (Women) is one of the most exciting swimming events in the Olympics. This is a team event, where each country is represented by its 4 best swimmers. In the event of 4x100m Medley Relay (Women), 4 different swimmers have to swim the 4 different strokes - Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle. The swimmers to start this event swim the Butterfly stroke while their successive partners swim Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle in the order. It has always been seen that the swimmer to swim the last round of Freestyle makes the fastest timing of her other partners. In this team event of (Women) 4x100m Medley Relay, the swimmers need to be alert that they plunge in the water only after their previous partners touch the finishing point. If the swimmers jump in the water before their previous partners complete their rounds, the entire team is disqualified from the competition.

The event of 4x100m Relay Medley (Women) had been introduced in the summer Olympics way back in 1960. Since then, it has always been a part of Olympics. The US swimmers have proved their supremacy in this sporting event many times. They have bagged 8 Olympic gold medals in Medley 4x100m Relay (Women). The other countries to win gold medals in this event in the Olympics are East Germany and Australia.

In 2008 Beijing Summer Games, the heat rounds of 4x100m Medley Relay (Women) will take place in the evening session on 15th August. The final round is scheduled to be held in the morning session on 17th August.
